Setting up of New NIPERs in the different parts of the Country:

National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC), the Working Group on Drugs and Pharmaceuticals set up by Planning Commission for the 11th Five Year Plan and the Standing Committee of Parliament for Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers have recommended setting up of additional NIPER like Institutes in the different parts of the Country.

In view of the recommendations of the above Committees and the increasing demand for skilled personnel from the pharmaceuticals industry, this Department appointed an Expert Committee in August, 2006 under the Chairmanship of Dr. C.L. Kaul, ex-Director, NIPER, to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and recommend the areas in the country where these Institutes should be set up incorporating details of physical infrastructure, faculty requirements, courses to be run, financial outlay required in a phased manner during the 11th Five Year Plan.

The Committee submitted its report to the Government in January, 2007 and recommended setting up of five new NIPERs during the Eleventh Five Year Plan at different locations i.e. Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Hajipur and Guwahati. NIPER Act 1998 has been amended to empower the Government for setting up of similar institutes in different parts of the country. Presently the Deptt is in the process of setting up of NIPERs and starting classes from this academic session 2007-08 at Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Hajipur.
